Exchange discussion between Jiangmen Forestry Bureau (Guangdong) and the IMC
Prof. Bao Daming, Director General of the IMC Interim Secretariat, welcomed the delegation and introduced the IMC’s establishment, mission, and key priorities. He emphasized that Jiangmen is a critical area for mangrove distribution in China, with a solid ecological foundation and significant potential for international cooperation in mangrove conservation. He expressed hope that both parties could explore collaborative pathways in areas such as demonstration base development, scientific research and monitoring, and international exchanges to jointly advance the protection and sustainable development of mangrove ecosystems.
Mr. Yang Haiquan, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group of the Jiangmen Natural Resources Bureau, highlighted that Jiangmen currently boasts over 1,084 hectares of mangrove forests, with outstanding ecosystem value and immense potential for conservation and restoration. In recent years, Jiangmen has actively promoted mangrove afforestation and restoration efforts, completing the protection and restoration tasks set by Guangdong Province ahead of schedule and achieving significant results in resource conservation, scientific research, monitoring, and public education. He emphasized Jiangmen’s commitment to leveraging its resource advantages to deepen cooperation and exchanges with the IMC and explore new pathways for international collaboration in mangrove conservation and restoration.
The IMC will strengthen global cooperation in the conservation, restoration, and wise and sustainable use of mangroves. It will continue to work with member countries to explore innovative models for mangrove conservation and restoration, promote best practices worldwide, and contribute to sustainable development.
