CEPA Programme

Mangroves and adjacent wetlands ecosystems are vital for climate resilience, biodiversity conservation and sustainable coastal development, yet their values remain insufficiently recognized. IMC implements CEPA Programme as a core component of IMC objectives to advance mangrove conservation, restoration, wise and sustainable use. The programme connects knowledge, policy and society by fostering dialogue, building capacity, and encouraging meaningful participation among diverse stakeholders.

The CEPA Programme focuses on:

  • Communication: To promote evidence-based decision-making by facilitating the exchange of information, knowledge and skills on the conservation and wise use of mangroves and wetlands;

  • Capacity building: To strengthen the ability of governments, practitioners, educators and youth to contribute effectively to mangrove conservation and management;

  • Education: To integrate the importance of mangrove conservation into lifelong learning, through both formal programs and community initiatives, inspiring informed attitudes, responsible behaviors, and sustained stewardship across society.

  • Participation & Public awareness: To engage local communities and stakeholders through practical, hands-on activities; To make use of outreach and engagement approaches and reach broad audiences via diverse channels, including events, campaigns, and communications activities, promoting a shared sense of responsibility and stewardship for mangrove ecosystems.

The CEPA Programme strives to promote a transition from awareness to participation and action, enhancing collective efforts at regional and global levels for the long-term conservation and sustainable use of mangroves and wetland ecosystems.
