On March 18, 2025, Ms. Cui Lijuan, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Forestry (CAF), led a delegation to visit the Interim Secretariat of the International Mangrove Center (IMC). The two sides held in-depth discussions on the Establishment of the National Key Laboratory for Wetland Environmental Protection and Ecological Restoration, as well as scientific research collaboration.

Prof. Bao Daming, Director General of the IMC Interim Secretariat, extended a warm welcome to the CAF delegation and provided a detailed introduction to the IMC’s development, organizational structure, and key initiatives for 2025. He emphasized that CAF possesses strong scientific research capabilities in the field of wetland conservation and expressed his expectation that both parties would leverage their respective strengths to jointly advance the construction of the National Key Laboratory, deepen cooperation in technological innovation and practical application, and contribute to global mangrove conservation research.
Vice President Cui Lijuan stated that CAF attaches high importance on mangrove research and is willing to strengthen collaboration with the IMC in areas such as mangrove ecological protection, breakthroughs in restoration technologies, and the development of the National Key Laboratory. She emphasized the importance of promoting the transformation and application of relevant scientific research achievements to contribute Chinese expertise and technological solutions to global mangrove ecological conservation. Zhang Manyin, Researcher at the CAF Wetland Research Institute, and Xin Kun, Professor at the CAF Tropical Forestry Research Institute, respectively introduced CAF’s scientific research layout, objectives, and the latest progress of the mangrove research team within the National Key Laboratory.
Representatives of the Ocean Development Bureau of Shenzhen Municipality, emphasized that Shenzhen highly values the development of the IMC. He expressed hope that the Mangrove Museum would closely collaborate with CAF to jointly build a global scientific research center for wetland conservation, promote the integration of mangrove research and public science education, and looked forward to deeper cooperation between the two parties in more areas to form a broader synergy for ecological protection.
This dialogue laid a solid foundation for establishing long-term collaboration between the two parties, which will strongly promote global mangrove conservation and ecological restoration, cultivate scientific research talent, and drive technological innovation. Both sides will work together to advance the high-quality development of mangrove ecological conservation and jointly fulfill their responsibilities in global ecological governance.
